DP18 has some fantastic jamming, but it's one of my least favorite DPs because the (intentional?) distortion in Jerry's guitar has a harsh, sour sound that keeps me from fully enjoying it. That said, the PitB and Scarlet>Fire are epochal. DP12 is one of the few 70s DPs that I don't have.

i streamed 18 on dead.net, i listened to a bit of samson. I see what you mean about jer's guitar, it sounds too bright, harsh or something. that settles it, i think i'll get 12, looks like lots of heavy jamming. i just wish they were all complete shows instead of compilations, oh well. whatcha gonna do

If you want my 2 cents, go with the even dozen.

Despite it being a compilation, I'd go for DP 12. I just moved recently and damn near shat myself when I couldn't find my copy of it. Thank God I didn't lose it, I woulda had a conniption.

Yeah, the jamming on it is THAT good. It's no wonder that it was released as a DP--Latvala probably went bananas when he first heard the instrumental break coming out of the WRS on the third disc.
